Just finished reading 'A Summer in Skye' by Alexander Smith. A very nice book with some great detailed descriptions of the author's travels through the isle of Skye in the 1800's. What I liked about it was that it was set in the past rather than the present and showed what things were like back then.
I'm now onto 'Calum's Road,' by Roger Hutchinson. This book's set in Raasay, just between Skye and the mainland. The guy, Calum, lives at the north end of the island where there are no roads and where the council refused to build a road. It takes him over 10 years to widen the footpath into a road, in the hope that more people would return to the north, rather that moving to the south where things were easier. Although it may not sound like it has much of a 'story,' it's still a really interesting read.
